On Wednesday, Nov. 11, around 10:20 p.m., firefighters were called to a fire at 31 Glen St., in Douglas. When they arrived they saw a fire blazing in the back part of the house.

There was one person in the home, Keith Bemis, 62, at the time of the fire and he died, firefighters said. Friends and family described Bemis as a musician, artist, and great friend, according to WPRI.

The home did not appear to have working fire alarms. The state fire marshal and police are investigating the fire.

“We have found no evidence that the home ha working smoke or carbon monoxide alarms,” said Fire Chief Kent Vinson.
